Gentle saunas and joyful encounters

The Kerkonkoski Saunamaraton was organized for the second time on June 15, 2024. The idea of ​​the event is to tour the saunas around the village center, which the people of Kerkonkoski have opened for the delight of event guests. The Kerkonkoski Saunamaraton is not a speed race, but the purpose is to enjoy the steam baths of as many saunas as possible, good company, and the beautiful scenery of the village.

This year, there were 10 different saunas and over 70 event guests. The event was so popular that registration had to be closed at the beginning of the event week. After this, the organizers' phones were ringing, but in order to ensure a pleasant experience, they didn't dare to take on any more sauna guests.

The event started at the Kesäravintola Kerkonkosken Keitaa with information and team division. This time, Halttunen Pekka's ferry transported marathon runners to three different saunas on the Niinivesi side. All saunas were easily accessible on foot. This year's special features included unique caravan and boat saunas.

Visitors came from nearby villages, Kuopio and even Vantaa. We received great feedback from visitors and the overall satisfaction with the event was 5/5.

 

A good-natured event! It's wonderful that there are people who let strangers into their saunas 🙂 and who have the courage to help make an event like this happen!

It was such a relaxed day and a peaceful feeling. Kerkonkoski is a lovely little village, countryside, water bodies and everything is close by. I managed to try out 8/10 saunas and each sauna left a positive impression on me. Saunamarathon is a great community event, thanks to the sauna users and organizers <3
